WILLIAM J. MELKONIAN is the Supervisor of Motor Vehicle Offense Prosecutions and the Director of Training at the Essex County District Attorney’s Office. He has been an assistant district attorney for approximately eighteen years and was the supervisor of the Lawrence District Court District Attorney's Office prior to being promoted to the Salem Superior Court staff in 1994. In addition to prosecuting a felony caseload, including homicide cases, Mr. Melkonian oversees the prosecution of all motor vehicle cases in Essex County. He has spoken at a variety of seminars sponsored by the Massachusetts District Attorneys Association and Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education, and has testified before a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration panel on OUI issues. Mr. Melkonian has lectured at the Massachusetts State Police Training Academy, the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy, and national automobile crash conferences. He received his B.A. in History from Tufts University and his J.D. from Boston University School of Law. He was admitted to the bar in 1988. (August 2008)
