STEPHEN B. REED is a founding partner of Beck Reed Riden LLP, a Boston business-litigation boutique focusing on contract, copyright, trademark, unfair competition, and healthcare litigation, as well as management-side labor and employment law, trade secrets, noncompetes, and alternative dispute resolution. Mr. Reed focuses his practice on the defense of discrimination, sexual harassment, wrongful termination, wage & hour, and related claims. He has litigated and tried cases in state and federal court as well as before the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and the National Labor Relations Board. A large portion of Mr. Reed’s practice involves advising employers on issues involving the Fair Labor Standards Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, the Americans With Disabilities Act, and other state and federal statutes that affect the employment relationship on a daily basis. He has reviewed and drafted countless employment and workplace policies since beginning his practice in 1992. Mr. Reed also advises clients on unfair competition issues, including the use and enforceability of noncompete, nonsolicitation, and nondisclosure agreements. He has successfully litigated cases on behalf of both employers and employees to either enforce or defeat such agreements. Mr. Reed has lectured and written on employment law subjects for continuing legal education and various business organizations. He was a member of the Massachusetts Bar Association subcommittee responsible for drafting the MCAD Sexual Harassment Guidelines, and is currently co-chairing a committee to convert the Guidelines into formal regulations. Mr. Reed is a member of the Labor & Employment Law Section of the Boston Bar Association. He is a graduate of Colby College and New England School of Law, and has an LL.M. in British and European labor law from The London School of Economics and Political Science.
