One result of the longest war in our country's history is the large number of families affected by the multiple deployments of military personnel-active, reserve, and National Guard. The number of divorces in that body of our serving citizenry has risen dramatically. There are long separations with parties in hard to reach distant lands. More and more, family law practitioners are called upon to deal with cases where one or both spouse is in active military service. It has been reported that up to 10% of first-time deployed service members and 33% of second-time deployed service members experience separation, divorce, and other related family issues concerning support or children.
