Free Practice Tips Commemorating the Massachusetts Superior Court's 150th Anniversary (1859-2009)

MCLE is pleased to join the Massachusetts Superior Court's 150th anniversary commemoration by making available, as a free public service to the bar, a series of short 10-minute video briefings offering practical and sage advice from more than thirty active and alumni members of the Massachusetts Superior Court. Each week, throughout the year, a new video featuring a different judge will be introduced to the collection of judicial musings from across the Commonwealth, together reflecting varied and rich judicial perspectives on all aspects of trial practice. Congratulations to the Superior Court and thank you for 150 years - and counting - of the Rule of Law.

Keep an eye out each week for a new tip. Click here for the video collection of judicial tips.

Thanks to all who participated in the recent auction of the 2009 Red Sox playoff tickets. Once again, it was a successful and exciting auction, which literally came down to the last minute. The prevailing bid for these tickets was $7,250. The net proceeds from this auction will be applied to the Monroe L. Inker Scholarship Fund. Scholarships to MCLE programs benefit legal services staff attorneys, practitioners who accept pro bono cases, and other lawyers who, without assistance, would not be able to attend MCLE programs. In turn, the benefits of the education these lawyers receive through continuing legal education extend to the clients they serve, often some of the most vulnerable members of our society who otherwise have little, if any, access to our legal system.

Monroe was an avid Red Sox fan and active MCLE volunteer. Given his devotion to the Red Sox, his commitment to the education of the bar, and his active involvement at MCLE, we believe that endowing scholarships in his name through the auction of his Red Sox tickets is a fitting way to honor his legacy and accomplishments. Currently, this fund endows 32 scholarships every year, in perpetuity - each in his name. We look forward to increasing its impact with auctions such as these in the future. Again, thanks to all who helped make this an exciting auction. We hope you consider participating again next year. Go Sox!
