    Product Description

MCLE, in conjunction with the Massachusetts LGBTQ Bar Association’s Committee for Transgender Inclusion, presents a seminar about representing and working for transgender clients.

Due to the unsettling reality that transgender individuals experience some of the highest rates of discrimination in areas including housing, education, employment, healthcare, policing, and public accommodation it is especially important that the transgender community can access attorneys that not only treat people of all genders with respect and professionalism, but that also understand the unique challenges facing the transgender community.

Participating educators and advocates learn proper terms and decorum and are exposed to practical issues that many transgender clients face within and in addition to their legal problems. Participants receive “best practice” samples of documents and coaching on how to advise judges and other parties about how to be sensitive to the experience of transgender clients. Panelists identify unique issues affecting transgender clients in certain areas of practice such as criminal defense, family law, healthcare, and estate planning. Finally, panelists provide insight on how to litigate gender identity and expression specific discrimination, both in Massachusetts and federally.
