    Product Description

The Firearms Session—or Gun Court—is an innovative specialty court with the express purpose of reducing the period from arraignment to disposition by at least half. With specialized proceedings dedicated to cases of firearms possession and collateral offenses, defendants arrested on a gun charge—as well as other charges such as drugs, assault-related offenses, or other crimes arising out of the same incident—are arraigned in the district court with jurisdiction and then have their cases routed to Firearms Sessions in the Central Division of the BMC.

These cases move quickly and there is little room for on-the-spot training. If you want to effectively represent a client in Gun Court, it is crucial that you are up to speed with the law governing the charges and the procedure used to process these claims. Handgun matters are, by their very nature, possessory offenses and as such practitioners must be able to identify potential suppression issues, and must be effective orators as motion practice is a large part of defending and prosecuting firearms cases. The statutes involved are complex and difficult to navigate, and a conviction in Gun Court often carries with it a mandatory minimum sentence.

MCLE brings together a prosecutor and defense attorney that try cases in Gun Court as well as the judge that presides over these cases. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to learn from the experts everything you need to know to practice in the Firearms Session!
