Helpful tools and strategies during these anxious times of uncertainty and change.

Start the new year with tools and strategies to improve your life and cultivate greater resilience, focus and well-being. Mindfulness is an essential foundation for thriving in and sustaining a satisfying legal career, and for increasing the capacity to meet the inherent stressors and challenges of a busy law practice and life. The Report of the Task Force on Lawyer Well-Being, issued by the ABA, Conference of Chief Judges, and other legal organizations, calls well-being an essential element of a lawyer's duty of competence and recommends mindfulness training as "mindfulness can enhance a host of competencies related to lawyer effectiveness, including increased focus and concentration, working memory, critical cognitive skills, reduced burnout, and ethical and rational decision-making."

Similarly, an article in the Harvard Business Review makes the case that mindfulness is a "must have" for professionals "to keep our brains healthy, to support self-regulation and effective decision-making capacities and to protect ourselves from toxic stress." Mindfulness also strengthens resilience and stress hardiness, and a study of executives under stress showed that those with these personality traits significantly decreased their risk of developing stress-related health problems.

In this half-day workshop, you hear about mindfulness and how it relates to law firms, legal services organizations, judges, and law students. You also have the opportunity to experience various types of mindfulness practices, both formal and informal, and learn how to integrate them into your life and work so you can be more present, focused, balanced, and resilient. Mindfulness provides new ways to respond to the inherent complexities of a busy and fast-paced career, and supports people in living life more fully, with greater ease and joy.
