Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP Establishes MCLE Scholarship Fund to Train Legal Aid and Pro Bono Attorneys.

Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education, Inc. (MCLE) is pleased to announce the establishment of the Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP Scholarship Fund, the first MCLE scholarship fund honoring a law firm. Special thanks to Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP, and all of its members, for its generous leadership gift to MCLE’s Campaign for Endowed Scholarships.

Scholarships from the Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP Scholarship Fund will benefit lawyers who serve the public interest, including legal services staff attorneys, private practitioners who accept pro bono cases, and other deserving lawyers who, without financial assistance, would not be able to attend MCLE programs. Because of the firm’s commitment to promoting diversity within the legal community, beneficiaries of these scholarships will include, although not be limited to, women lawyers and lawyers of color.

Based in Columbia, South Carolina, Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP has built a strong east coast presence with multiple offices and opened its Boston office in 2006. Founded in 1897, its growth has given Nelson Mullins the ability to represent its clients, ranging from private individuals to large businesses, with legal service in more than 40 specific practice areas. Throughout its expansion, the firm’s core values—a commitment to the client, practicing with professionalism and integrity, and promoting entrepreneurship, community stewardship and service—have remained dedicated towards meeting the needs of the client and serving the communities in which the firm practices.

“Nelson Mullins is nationally recognized for its support of legal services and its pro bono efforts in the communities it serves. The firm’s generosity in establishing this fund to promote the training of public service lawyers is in keeping with that growing national reputation. Closer to home, it underscores the firm’s commitment to the Massachusetts legal community. MCLE is grateful for the firm’s example of leadership and its commitment to the continuing education and professional development of the Massachusetts bar.
