Conciliation is an important and potentially game-changing ADR process that touches upon many different practice areas and departments of the trial court. Trained conciliators can assist the judicial process by, among other things, improving communications, interpreting issues, encouraging parties to explore solutions, building trust and helping to find mutually acceptable outcomes.
Rule 8 of the Uniform Rules of Dispute Resolution provides standards for court-connected ADR services. It also contains guidelines which establish training, evaluation, mentoring, and continuing education requirements for conciliators. Using Rule 8's guidelines, MCLE offers this eight-hour workshop for conciliators that is co-chaired by two former judges and incudes a sitting judge and highly experienced attorneys and conciliators on the faculty. Many of these expert practitioners have created and/or run conciliation programs around the state, so they understand what conciliators need to know—and do—to help achieve a successful outcome. They give you an in-depth overview of the court system, alternative dispute resolution processes and the Uniform Rules, so you end up with the thorough training you need to fulfill Rule 8's requirements.
