    Product Description

Contrary to what clients may believe, estate planning doesn’t end after the execution ceremony. Wills, trusts, and incapacity instruments are meant to be living documents, and should be updated regularly and as needed to account for changes in the law and major life events for clients and their beneficiaries. This program discusses common motivations for a client to update their estate plan during their lifetime, who may have the power to amend, and the downstream effects an amendment or restatement may cause to other documents. The speakers review tax considerations and special situations where particular care must be taken when amending (e.g., changing domicile). The speakers also review common logistical and drafting pitfalls, what issues are likely to result in a future dispute, and how potential issues and ambiguities can be addressed even after documents become irrevocable or when an estate plan remains incomplete at death.
